The hosts dominated the majority of the match but lacked superiority in attack, while Thomas Tuchel’s side’s best chance came from a second-half shot from Christian Pulisic, which Wolverhampton goalkeeper Jose Sa had an excellent save.
Chelsea presented a tired squad on Sunday with eight senior players out due to injury or after testing positive for COVID-19, and assigned just four players on the field to the bench. An hour before kick-off, they confirmed the request to postpone the match which was rejected by the Premier League.
Wolverhampton started strong and appeared to advance in the 14th minute as Daniel Budens scored a cross from Markal, but the attack was called off after Raul Jimenez was judged for an interference in play.
The hosts continued to cause problems for Chelsea throughout the half as Jimenez and Leander Dendoncker came close, while the visitors struggled to create chances for themselves at the other end of the field.
Chelsea improved a lot after the break, but failed to challenge Sa until Pulisic’s chance in the 78th minute.
The result drops to six points, six points behind rivals Manchester City for the English Premier League title.
