Thursday event at southside community center promotes mental wellness

LANSING Mental health resources and more will be available late Thursday afternoon at the Alfreda Schmidt Community Center, as part of a free event dedicated to black, Indigenous and other communities of color in Ingham County.

The Mental Health Resource and Awareness Fair will be held from 4-7 p.m. at the Southern Community Center on 5825 Ways. According to a press release, it will “display community organizations, healthcare professionals, clinicians and service providers” from across the greater Lansing area.

The entire community is invited, but the event will focus on the needs of Black, Indigenous or Colored residents due to the unique pressures those communities face in Ingham County, said Yannis Jackson, bookkeeper for the Ingham County Treasurer’s office. who organized the event.
