The #1 Drinking Habit for Faster Weight Loss, Says Dietitian — Eat This Not That

Now, we are sure you have concluded that there is no way to lose weight in a jiffy. This does not happen. There are no magic potions or spells to get rid of belly fat overnight.

Weight loss is the product of adding healthy habits to replace those that are gaining weight and sticking to them until they become a routine in your life. Fortunately, some habits show weight loss results faster than others. For example, the number 1 drinking habit to follow to lose weight faster is to add “benefit drinks”, Registered Dietitian says Bonnie Top Dix, Dr., creator of the website and blog.

What it means is usually to choose drinks that contain ingredients known to support a healthy body weight.

Registered Dietitian in a private clinic Laura Bo Mathis, RD, agrees that weight loss doesn’t come so much from what you’re cutting out of your diet or denying yourself, but from the healthy things you add.

According to her estimation, two of the drinking habits that you should add to your weight loss routine, other than more water, are drinking. Green tea and fermented drinks kombucha.

“Kombucha contains beneficial probiotics that support the microbiome, which have been linked to a reduced risk of obesity,” she says. “Green tea is one of the best because it’s high in antioxidants, which may help reduce inflammation, a factor associated with weight loss.”

A number of studies suggest that powerful antioxidant polyphenols, called catechins, found in abundance in green tea along with the caffeine in tea may also improve weight loss by increasing metabolism.

Unsweetened almond milk is one of my favorite Taub-Dix drinks with nutritional and weight loss benefits.

“Almond milk has only 30 calories per cup, but you get more calcium than dairy milk, plus vitamin D, vitamin E, and vitamin A,” she says. She says almond milk can be an effective weight loss drink as an alternative to cow’s milk.

If you also eliminate sugar-sweetened beverages, you can speed up weight loss even more.

Nutritionists say making their favorite drinks with benefits as a habit can also help you weed out your worst weight loss drink, soda. “Kombucha, because it is carbonated, makes a great alternative to soda,” Mathis says.

After all, there’s so little redeeming value in sodas and other sugar-sweetened beverages like juice cocktails and sweet tea. Government surveys show that SSBs contribute about a third of the added sugars that the average American consumes daily. On average, adults consume 145 calories from skin-friendly foods per day.

“Drinking soda is like mixing 10 teaspoons packets of sugar into a glass of water and drinking it,” says Taub-Dix. “It’s devoid of anything nutritious.”
