Shailene Woodley and fiancé Aaron Rodgers have a ‘different, unconventional relationship’ and are ‘very private about things’

Although they may be engaged, Shailene Woodley and Aaron Rodgers would rather maintain the relationship on their own terms.

The Big Little Lies star, 30, and the Green Bay Packers, 38, are said to have had an “unconventional” relationship that involved being more “private” about things than the average Hollywood couple.

‘They have a different and unconventional relationship,’ a source told PEOPLE, but he has remained mostly silent about what makes their partnership so atypical.

The duo – who independently confirmed their engagement in February 2020 – have continued to keep their relationship private.

Recently Rodgers seemed to be celebrating his birthday on December 2nd without the love of his lady by his side, and she didn’t admit it on social media.

But despite there being little more than praise on social media and a lack of public outings, the couple is said to be “still together.”

“Shailene and Aaron are still together,” the source said. “It’s no surprise that they don’t post about each other on their birthdays in that sense, and that they are very private about things.”

Even the way they went to announce their engagement was not standard, as their relationship was taking shape during the unprecedented times of COVID-19.

Rodgers lightly thanked his “fiancee” while accepting the NFL MVP award in February, though he didn’t mention her by name.

PEOPLE was the first outlet who determined that the fiancée in question was indeed Woodley, later confirming that she was ‘engaged for a while’ in her February 22 appearance with Jimmy Fallon on The Tonight Show.

‘Yes, we are engaged. But for us, this isn’t new news, you know? So it’s kind of funny. “Yes, we’ve been engaged for a while,” she said, hinting at her ring.

She gave a rare interview about their relationship over the summer telling Shape Magazine that they ‘jumped on top’ because of the pandemic.

“Starting a relationship where you move in immediately with someone – because it’s a pandemic and you can’t just get on a plane and go back and forth on weekends – we learned a lot about each other very quickly.”

The Fault In Our Stars actress has spoken publicly in defense of her NFL lover as Aaron admitted he has not been vaccinated against COVID-19 despite telling news outlets in August that he has been ‘vaccinated’.

The couple were last publicly spotted together in the spring as they enjoyed a trip to Disney World before vacationing in Hawaii with friends Miles Teller and wife Kelly Sperry just a month later.
