Kelowna RCMP responded to a report of a man using an ax in the 300 block area of ​​Academy Way on Tuesday.

UBCO Phoenix tweeted an alert shortly after 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday informing students and staff of a “man with an axe. He’s stopping traffic and yelling at vehicles and people nearby. Stay safe and spread the word.”

They responded to the 4 p.m. call, Canadian Mounted Police told Castanet, “When officers arrived at the scene, they found a man associated with a nearby dwelling who owned a two-axle,” Cpl. says Tammy Loeb, RCMP Media Relations Officer.

Loeb says the incident was mental health related and that their investigation determined that “the man did not threaten or injure anyone with the axe. He was later arrested by order of Vernon.”

“Police have taken over the interviewer regarding public safety but no criminal charges have been brought,” Loeb said.
