The new monarchy
When the end of the second Elizabethan era comes to an end, and the dawn of the Carolinian era comes to an end, the monarchy can look very different.
A royal expert said Prince Charles will present a “completely different” royal era, but he will struggle to keep up with the Queen’s extraordinary reign.
Professor Anna Whitelock said: “Just by virtue of the fact that the Queen celebrates her seventieth year next year, by virtue of her longevity, her life, what she has lived, and what she has seen, she is like no other.
“Charles, given his age, he would never be able to get past that, what the Queen has seen and what she has been through.”
She added, “I think we’re in a completely different era, and we’re going to be, in a totally different era with a totally different kind of royalty, a totally different kind of monarchy in the future.”
