Javier Bardem reiterated his defense of Woody Allen, claiming that the sexual assault allegations against him were “just rumours”.
Actress Bardem who worked with the director in the 2008 movie Vicki Cristina BarcelonaHe previously said he did not believe the accusations that saw other Hollywood stars turn their backs on Allen.
In a new interview with Watchman, he said, “pointing the finger at someone is very dangerous if it is not legally proven. Moreover, it is just gossip.”
Bardem Vicki Cristina Barcelona Star Rebecca Hall has spoken out against Allen regarding allegations of sexual abuse from the director’s adopted daughter Dylan Farrow, who was seven when she claimed in 1992 that Allen molested her, accusations he denies.
But Bardem said of Hall’s reaction: “To tell you the truth, I don’t follow any of that, what people have said. I try to go where logic dictates, which is: Let’s follow the rules that exist to determine whether someone is guilty or innocent.”
“If the case is reopened and he is found guilty, I will be the first to say: What a horrible thing. But so far, I haven’t seen that.”
He also said he hadn’t seen Hall “in many years” – although he is married to another star from the movie, Penelope Cruz.
Speaking about the allegations in 2018, Bardem also sided with Allen, saying, “If there was evidence that Woody Allen was guilty, then yes, I would have stopped working with him, but I have doubts.”
Allen was acquitted of the allegations through two investigations in the 1990s, but the accusations resurfaced in the wake of #MeToo, leading to a number of actors indicting him.
