Nocerino explains why Romagnoli’s development at Milan suddenly ‘stopped’

Antonio Nocerino, who played for Milan between 2011 and 2015, shared his thoughts on current Rossoneri captain Alessio Romagnoli. The two, of course, have known each other from the club’s midfield time.

Romagnoli has struggled to establish his place in the starting line-up since the arrival of Fikayo Tomori from Chelsea. However, due to the tight schedule, he was able to play a lot anyway, but now he needed to take the next step.

Speaking to Milan’s Twitch channel, as reported by MilanNews, Nocerino said he believed Romagnoli now deserved to play from the start. He also explained why the central defender initially struggled to show his best qualities with the Rossoneri.

“He arrived in Milan when I was there too, it was a difficult moment. He was one of the youngsters on everyone’s lips. He eventually became Milan captain and the pressure increased three times.

“In my opinion, in that moment there, while others continued to grow, he probably stopped by a question of my mind and settled down a bit. The competition has arrived and he knows now he has to work hard or else not play. Now he is doing something more, he deserves to play and he is doing well.”

Romagnoli was one of Milan’s next players in the midweek match against Atlético Madrid and it was great to see him perform so well in such a big game. As we know, the big matches are what he struggled the most for.
