One tip is to “eat early,” according to Dr. Mosley.

He said, “In general, I encourage people to try to eat their evening meal early, from 7pm to 7:30pm.

“Try to stop eating by 8 p.m., and then don’t eat anything that has calories after that.”

This is because “the fats and sugars that you eat later at night, stay suspended in your system for much longer because your body is switched off at night.”

“Your digestion will be over, and we won’t really appreciate that late-night snack,” the doctor added.

However, the “key thing” is to try to limit your alcohol and caffeine intake late at night, according to Dr. Mosley, as both will likely keep you awake at night.

The nutrition expert said: “People use alcohol as a way to sleep, but the truth is that it will lead to interrupted sleep and you will wake up a lot during the night, which is very obvious.

“A nice cup of chamomile tea or a cup of ginger tea is probably your best bet at night.”

In addition to making sure they get a good night’s sleep, Dr. Mosley recommended that slimmers “stack protein on their plate” to lose weight.

He said, “It’s really important to get the right amount of protein, which is 50 to 70 grams per day.

“You can get protein mainly from meat or fish, you can also get it from legumes, but you have to eat more, which is why Fast 800 on a vegetarian diet is more challenging.
