Marcel Brands leaves Everton, board pledges ‘full support’ for Rafa Benitez

Everton announced that Marcel Brandes had left his role as director of football on Sunday but said their manager Rafa Benitez had their “full support”.

Everton’s 4-1 defeat to Liverpool on Wednesday extended their winless run to eight games and left them 16th in the Premier League, five points above the relegation zone.

Fans faced Brands when he left the director’s chest after that defeat.

“The owner and managers would like to thank Marcel for the service he has rendered to the club over the past three and a half years and we wish him well in his future,” the club said in a statement.

“In the meantime, the owner and the board of directors will continue to extend their full support to our manager, Rafa Benitez.”

Everton added that a strategic review will be conducted to ensure the club’s long-term plans for the future.
