Manchester City defender charged with seventh count of rape

Benjamin Mendy was charged with another rape charge after he appeared in court on Wednesday.

The Manchester City footballer is now charged with seven counts of rape involving four women. In all, he was charged with eight offenses involving five women.

Mindy appeared in Chester Crown Court on Wednesday alongside defendant Louis Saha Matori, 40, who is charged with six counts of rape and one count of sexual assault.

Mindy, a Prestbury player for Cheshire, has been in custody since his arrest on August 26. He last played for City in a 1-0 loss to Tottenham on August 15.

The France international, who moved to the Etihad from Monaco in a £52m deal in 2017, has been suspended by the club “pending investigation”.

Mendy, who has 10 caps for France, was due to face trial in January but the date has now been pushed back until at least June.

The charges against the 27-year-old allegedly occurred between October 2020 and August 2021. The additional charges from a new complainant allegedly occurred in July 2021.

The charge was revealed on Wednesday after the reporting restrictions were removed. Mendy was formally charged last week.
