Dawson: Rangnick debut hints at Man United future

Sources told ESPN that Rangnick is being allowed to assign a “small number” of his coaching staff to work alongside Mike Phelan and Kieran McKenna, both of whom were part of Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s team.

Michael Carrick, one of Solskjaer’s assistants, left the club after taking charge of the team for three games before appointing Rangnick as interim coach until the end of the season.

Rangnick was asked about the possibility of bringing his staff to the official unveiling before the victory over Crystal Palace and said that any date could take time to arrange.

“I am more than happy to work with the current coaching staff because I need their experience, and I need their experience in terms of the current squad,” he said.

“Obviously I will try to find one, two or three people who can join us in a week or two, but because of the Brexit regulations, it’s not very easy.

“Many of my former teammates, regardless of whether they are video analysts or assistant coaches, have long-term contracts with big clubs so they are not available at the moment and we have to be a bit smart and find the right people.

“Hopefully we can get them here in the next week or two.”

Former midfielder Armas was crowned 66 times by the USMNT before ending his football career in 2007.

In 2008, he took over as a training assistant at the Chicago Fire and also worked for the New York Red Bulls as an assistant and head coach.

Rangnick was appointed Head of Red Bull’s Global Football Projects in 2019.
