Some notes from about MLS as work continues off the field:

LAFC in talks with Renato Paiva, Independiente del Valle team manager

LAFC has named current Independiente del Valle coach Renato Paiva as a candidate to succeed Bob Bradley as manager, multiple sources told The Athletic. The 51-year-old Portuguese captain led IDV to the club’s first Ecuadorean league title last Sunday with a 4-2 aggregate win over Emelec. Paiva is in his first year at IDV after being appointed to replace Miguel Angel Ramirez, who is now the head coach of Charlotte FC’s expansion team.

Multiple sources confirmed to The Athletic that LAFC co-chair and general manager John Thorington was in Ecuador last week, with one saying he spoke to Paiva about a coaching job at LAFC while he was there.

Paiva was previously the coach of Benfica’s under-16, under-17 and under-19 teams, having spent more than a decade working at the Portuguese team’s famous youth academy. During his tenure with the club, he coached former Benfica youth stars and current Manchester City players Rubén Dias and Bernardo Silva, as well as Atlético Madrid striker Joao Felix. He briefly managed the Benfica B team in 2019, after former Benfica B coach Bruno Lage took over the first team. Lagg is now the head coach of Wolverhampton Wanderers in the Premier League.

Paiva has a successful history of working with both young players and experienced professionals.
