Kim kardashian She says that it is the ability of culture and not confiscation.
The social icon has been criticized in years past for claims that she is a cultural vulture and has profited from black culture when it comes to her sometimes tanned skin, bronzed appearance, and curvy figure. But as far as the reality TV star is concerned, people have misunderstood her intentions, especially when it comes to rocking her hair with braided styles.
While talking about years of the lion-hunting allegations, Kardashian said the public is getting it wrong. “I wouldn’t do anything to fit any culture,” the Keeping Up With the Kardashians franchise star said. The 41-year-old claims that some of the criticism she receives is partly an unfortunate byproduct of her desire to share stylish moments with her oldest child, daughter Northwest.
“I’ve had a backlash in the past from putting my hair in braids and I understand that. Honestly, a lot of the time comes from my daughter [North] “She asks us to do a hair match,” she explained to iD magazine in a December feature.
Kardashian shares all four of her children with estranged husband Kanye West. The founder and founder of SKIMS is part Armenian, but the fact that her kids are racist isn’t lost on her when she tries to placate the 8-year-old.
“I had conversations with her like, ‘Hey, maybe this hairstyle is better for you than me. “But I also want her to feel that I can do a hairstyle with her and not make her that big of a bargain either if it’s something she really asks for and really wants.”
For some social media users, the reasoning of the soon-to-be attorney made perfect sense, and in return they offered sympathy or a lesson about what they saw as a real problem. Damn! Imagine you’re afraid of braiding your hair because people are going to beat it up. Black women fought so hard to look at our styles in a Pretty and now that… we have a problem with her. I hate it for us. I hate that this is how we interact,” one person tweeted.
Another commented, “I don’t think wearing braids was a black catch – people brought up the problem with terminology. Kornoz called Bo Derek braids. There was a call for her to understand cultural history if she would rock the hairstyle.”
In 2018, Kardashian faced backlash after rocking beaded cornrows that she referred to as her “Bo Derek braids.” While actress Bo Derek was best known for her style in the 1979 movie “10,” Kardashian’s critics took issue with the fact that she chose not to call the braids what they were — cornrows. Instead, she credited a white woman for her appearance.
But for others, Kardashian’s thinking was seen as an attempt to blame her child for her cultural history.
Regardless of what people might make of her comments, Kardashian says she has “learned and grown over the years, finding good ways to connect with all my kids about all of this” and how to instill “that culture of learning in my kids too.”
