Jussie Smollett testifies to a correspondence with CNN’s Don Lemon during the CPD investigation
Josie Smollett said he corresponded with CNN’s Don Lemon during the early parts of the investigation into the alleged hate crime attack.
In his testimony in court on Monday, Smollett said under oath that during the investigation he received a text message from the network’s Don Lemon — presumably conveying information that the Chicago Police Department did not believe his version of what happened, Matt Finn reported. From Windy City Courthouse where there is a disagreement between the plaintiffs and the Smollett defense team.
Lemon told his viewers at the time that the story was “personal” as he and Smollett were acquaintances and had been in frequent contact since the alleged incident and that Smollett told Lemon what he said had happened to him, which he admitted raised a lot of questions.
He emphasized that while Smollett was “innocent until proven guilty,” he “wasted the goodwill of many people” if his story wasn’t true.
He even lied to a lot of people… including me. Lemon told his viewers. “He squandered the goodwill of outstanding people who might one day run this country like Kamala Harris and Cory Booker and people like President Trump.”
During a panel discussion on his show at the time, Lemon argued that appearing on morning shows “no longer works” when it comes to dealing with a PR crisis. Because it was a “political” story rather than an entertainment story, he should have taken his case to “news channels or social media”.
“There’s nothing against the morning shows, I love all my teammates out there and I think they’re doing a great job, but that’s not what it is now,” said Lemon. “Come on to a show like this or any of my colleagues and sit with us live for an hour or however long, answering questions that need answering from real journalists – I shouldn’t say that, from journalists who don’t have to worry about the entertainment arm of their company. own”.
“He lost because – not his fault. Maybe it was people – I don’t know what they were saying to him, maybe because of his representatives. Who do you know?” Lemon told the committee.
