How to lose visceral fat: Treatments may include dandelion tea

One 2008 study published in the medical journal Nutrition Research and Practice indicated that dandelion could act as a lipase inhibitor.

Lipase inhibitors play a key role in the metabolism of human fat and work by decreasing the gastrointestinal absorption of lipids.

The findings support the medicinal use of the flower as a natural alternative to certain weight loss medications.

In fact, the researchers in the Korean study explained in the journal Nutrition Research and Practice that these effects prevented weight gain around the waist as effectively as the drug Orlistat.

Further tests investigating the effects of dandelion extract in mice revealed similar results, leading to calls for further research on the possible anti-obesity effects of the plant.

The inhibiting effects have been attributed to the drink’s polyphenols, which block the activity of an enzyme needed to break down during digestion.

This could prevent up to 25 percent of fat consumed from being absorbed.

What’s more, the anti-inflammatory properties of dandelion may be beneficial for weight loss, given that chronic inflammation is linked to weight loss.

The authors of one medical paper published in Nutrition Reviews in 2012, explained: “Emerging evidence suggests that dandelion and its constituents have antioxidants and anti-inflammatory activities that result in diverse biological effects.”

To reap the benefits of dandelion tea for weight loss, Miss Kubiliute recommends regular consumption of the tea.

She explained: “Ensure daily intake of the herbal remedy […], at least a cupful daily for consistency. You can also consider a 20-30 minute exercise session and a healthy diet for quicker results.”

Indeed, regularly engaging in moderate-intensity exercise, for at least 30 minutes on most days, could significantly help reduce waist circumference.
