A royal commentator has claimed Meghan Markle is under “enormous” pressure as Kate landed the cover of an American magazine for her 40th birthday.
Daniela Elser highlighted how Kate appeared on the cover of US magazine People this week ahead of her historic birthday next month.
Ms Elser compared the number of front-page appearances the Duchess of Cambridge made last year to the Duchess of Sussex.
The title of Ms Elser’s commentary article on news.com.au said Kate’s birthday cover was putting an “enormous” pressure on Meghan.
The royal commentator wrote: “Just in case anyone’s counting, this is the Duchess’ fourth star role at the glossy entertainment magazine front in the past 12 months, including her second solo tour.
“Here’s the kicker: Meghan, Duchess of Sussex? During one of the biggest years of her life including one in which she accused the Royal House of institutional racism and ignored her pleas for help when her mental health struggled, when she welcomed her for the second time. As a child and when she began her career after Megest?”
(Meghan has twice appeared on covers with Harry, while he’s got two more covers without his wife.)
While the People cover is hardly the most accurate on measures of prestige and public approval, Kate’s continued appearances, and Meghan’s lack of stellar billing, cast an understated picture of the Sussexes campaign in the US to establish themselves as a dazzling public figure.
