Dennis In an effort to bolster the department’s efforts toward responding to the growing number of service calls related to mental health issues, the Dennis Police Department has created an Internal Mental Health Task Force (MHTF).

The MHTF is made up of four civilian mental health practitioners, a departmental family services officer, and five members of the community crisis intervention team.
MHTF’s mission is to meet the needs of people in the community who seek immediate assistance and to conduct follow-up visits to provide available services or referrals to outside agencies.

The department was awarded a grant funding that enabled the hiring of three civilian mental health practitioners, the fourth being the department’s victim services coordinator, Cathy Bedene. Each of these practitioners brings specialized training and experience in the areas of substance use disorders, children with mental health issues and prison diversion, to the task force.
