As we pointed out in our introductory article, 2021 was the year in which fashion got more and more whimsical, with a great deal of more creative and debatable looks emerging from men. Continuing in this vein…
15. Coleman Domingo at the Oscars at Atelier Versace
It’s been a great year for pink menswear on the red carpet. not only this Not The first entry in this list; Nor is he the only one in this post. Celebrity men have reached out to their inner peacock this year and the result has been a sudden tidal wave of pink males the likes of which we haven’t seen since the Victorian era. This was one of the most amazing things. It looks amazing.
14. Emma Corin as Miu Miu at the Golden Globes
Emma Corinne might have been the awful celebrity fashion queen this year if she had the chance to promote her role on The Crown with a full promotional blast instead of the mostly Zoomified work she was stuck doing in the early months of the year. She immediately charmed us with her refusal to dress like a princess and embrace styles that were sometimes grotesque, sometimes punk, but always high fashion. This Pierrot is probably the most traditional thing she’s worn all year, but it’s also the most gorgeous. How many other stars could have come close to doing the full-blown clown makeup for the Golden Globes?
13. Regina King on the set of Michael Kors at the Met Gala
Lest you think we’re all talking about weird looks this year, here’s Regina King, paying tribute to the hottest trends of all time. Like Lupita Nyong’o in the previous entry, this one’s here because it’s a perfect high-fashion homage to mainstream American fashion shows, which is what the Met Gala was all about this year. Blue hair was a great choice.
12. Harry Styles in Gucci at the Brit Awards
In the first minute of discussing the prospect of putting this year’s roster together, we warmly agreed that we’d be failing our jobs if we didn’t give Harry good advice for his efforts this year. Of all the peacocks and peacocks featured on this year’s red carpet, his style was cheerful and playful, like an old-school rock star. Like we said in the original post, it looks like a party in human form.
11. Lil Nas X as Richard Quinn at the BET Awards
The question was never whether Lil Nas X would land on this year’s list. It was always about the look that would make the cut and whether we could limit ourselves to just one. Not a single outfit he’s been wearing in public this year hasn’t been amazing (and more than a few were super chic), but this Richard Quinn suit, which oozes eccentricity, romance, and glamour, is our favorite by a mile.
