To receive expansion protection from Angel City, the Red Stars reluctantly agreed to exchange two longtime club supporters, Sarah Jordan and Julie Erts, as well as an international spot.

While Chicago favorite Sarah Jordan sought the move for personal reasons, she was quick to say, “I am so grateful for the opportunity the Chicago Red Stars gave me. Additionally, to fulfill the player’s request, the Red Stars agreed to trade Nicole Stanton for OL Reign FC to play in her hometown of Washington in exchange for a third-round pick in the upcoming NWSL draft. Stanton had a farewell letter to her adopted hometown saying, “Chicago! The city that stole my heart. Thank you for three incredible seasons. I’ve grown here as a person and a player. I’ve made lifelong friends. Thank you to my teammates for being the best out there. I love you all.” To the fans – man. I’m going to miss you! You guys always show up so much. Appreciate you.
