JUST IN – According to both NBC Sports and BBC, today’s match between Burnley and Tottenham Hotspur at Turf Moor has been canceled due to winter weather conditions in northern England.
This is what the stadium looked like about an hour ago.
The stadium staff were working hard to clear the stadium to make it playable, but match official Peter Banks saw enough and canceled the match. Northern England was hit by a bout of wintry weather from Storm Irwin that led to blizzard-like conditions in some parts of the country.
Now, if this was a CONCACAF match involving the US men’s team, not only would the match continue, but it would have been something to remember for years (see: USA vs Costa Rica in 2013. But in the end, that’s probably the right call. The conditions of the stadium were Horrible and there is little point in playing a potentially unsafe game.
Enjoy your morning, Tottenham fans! But leave some good feelings to this guy who apparently flew in from Dallas just to watch this game.
