Julian Alvarez’s future remains unknown but the number of clubs interested in signing him is increasing, according to a report.
Calciomercato.com remembers Alvarez’s remarkable rise to become one of South America’s most wanted players and perhaps Argentina’s best young striker. He helped River Plate win the Libertadores Cup against Boca and won the Copa America with Argentina last summer, and led River to the title this season with 17 goals and 7 assists in 20 games.
Milan moved early, sending envoys to Argentina to follow the 21-year-old closely while Juventus have made inquiries and Inter are considering him as a possible replacement for Lautaro Martinez. Now, though, there is also strong interest from Spain as Atletico Madrid, Seville and above all Barcelona are poised to enter decisively.
Alvarez’s contract expires in December 2022 and he is considering extending it for a year or two to give Los Millionarios some relief, while at the moment he has a €25m clause that he feels should not be raised or removed.
Barcelona may be boosted by a hypothetical renewal of Alvarez as their idea is to sign him on a paid-out loan with an option to buy. Alvarez has already said that he would be happy to play at Barcelona, which means that Juventus and Milan must act quickly.
