Arteta – It’s a strong statement from the team | Press conference | News

After winning back-to-back home wins against Southampton and West Ham, we ended an excellent week with a 4-1 away win over Leeds United.

It was our first road win since beating Leicester at the end of October, and cemented our place in the top four in the Premier League until Christmas.

It was another match in which our players stood out in particular, and the coach dedicated a special tribute to Martin Odegaard, who created five chances during the 85th minute he spent on the field.

This is what he told the press after the match.

On the result…
I’m very, very happy with the performance and the result, the week we’ve had and the direction this team is going forward.

On taking advantage of the weak side of Leeds…
Yes. It’s always hard to play against them when you look at any game they’ve played. Obviously, at Al Ittihad it was a different story but when they played at Stamford Bridge…the opponents playing this season know what game they are going to face. It was no different [today]. They never gave up in the second half and it’s a team that I really like and I’m happy because it’s not easy to play the way we did today, in this atmosphere and against this opponent, so I think it was a very good team. Strong statement from the team.

On whether he’d rather have more points or more games on hand at this point…
The points, we have now. The rest have to have them but we know we’re going to play like this now [with disruption] He is part of the league now.

If they put a mark in the race for the top four…
We are there now, but there is still a long, long season going forward with a lot of unpredictable things that are likely to happen, but we are there. We want to keep going and we want to keep improving and playing better and better and then let’s see what we are up to.

On the Similarities Between Martin Odegaard and David Silva…
This is a great name. My opinion is David is the best I’ve seen playing between the lines over the past 20 years. Martin has tremendous quality and the ability to open up situations and put players in open spaces in tight spots. I’m really happy and now he’s getting better at goal threatening too, so we have a great player out there who is ready to become one of the best, but it’s still too early.
