Ajax goalkeeper Andre Onana has sent a very clear message to FC Barcelona: He is ready to answer the call, if they so choose.
“I am still in contact with Barcelona. I have a very, very good relationship since I left. Barcelona is my home. The goalkeeper said in a recent interview.
Onana has been established in La Masia for five years after starting his work at the Samuel Eto’o Foundation in his native Cameroon. Eventually he will join Jong Ajax, before being the first team in Amsterdam.
He has been linked with a move away from the Eredivisie after five seasons with Ajax, and was recently linked with a move to Inter Milan.
“There is talk of many things, they also talk about Arsenal and Barcelona, obviously. At the moment, there is nothing concrete. Journalism is part of my life, and there are times when I am not sure what they are talking about.”
When asked if Barcelona was his first choice, he answered unequivocally: “Obviously. It’s my home, and I grew up there. If it was Barcelona, it would be Barcelona.”
Onana was full of praise for the club, comparing his time in Barcelona’s academy to living in luxury. However, he was not willing to promise that he would play for the Catalans, considering that at the moment the club has many good goalkeepers and there may be no chance for anyone else.
He said: “I know that one day I will play at the Camp Nou, but I am not sure if he will be with Barcelona or against him.”
